The Bouvier des Flandres originated in the plains of Flanders, Belgium to herd and drive cattle. The breed withstood a setback during WWI, and went on to carry messages and search for wounded during WWII. A Bouvier is an intelligent, faithful dog, trustworthy and loyal to his companions. A Bouvier des Flandres is spirited and fun, but well behaved and easily trained. Regular outdoor exercise is a must for this vigorous dog.
