English Mastiff

Mastiffs also are referred to as English Mastiffs, or incorrectly as Old English Mastiffs (OEM's). The Mastiff is an ancient breed that fought in Roman arenas and has lived in Britain since the time of Julius Caesar. The Mastiff was used for hunting and as a guard dog since the Middle Ages. A Mastiff is a brave guard dog, and a loyal, devoted companion. Although very large (adult males weigh between 160-230 lbs.), they are dignified, calm and quiet with large space needs, and leisure but regular exercise. Many do not reach full adult growth for up to 2 years.
