Mary Detwiler

About the Artist:

Mary Detwiler Art: I am a self-taught pastel artist who fell in love with drawing the moment I picked up that first crayon. I am passionate about both art and animals. Dogs, cats and nature have always been an integral part of my life and my artwork. I draw realistic animals in all types of natural backgrounds, some real & some touching on the surreal. My goal is to capture the dog or cats face, character and emotion, while giving the viewer a tiny glimpse of the animals’ perspective through my paintings.

I live in Bradenton, Florida with my husband, teenage daughter, and a 7 year old pug named Jesse, a 2 year old beagle/coonhound rescue named Copper, & Fluffy, the cat. My pastel paintings are currently hanging in homes throughout the U.S, and Europe, as well as local art galleries and upscale dog venues.

Shows

I have enjoyed showing my work in art shows including Saks Fifth Avenues “Dogs Night on the Town”, The Lancaster Museum of Art’s “Hot Diggity Dog Show, Sarasota’s Pug Parades, as well as charity benefits to help our local Humane Society, Free Spay & Neuter program, area shelters and specific breed rescues.

Commission Information

I enjoy painting all types of dogs & cats from the champion purebred to the mixed breed I meet at the dog park. Every dog or cats’ face has its own story to tell.<

I need a good, clear, close-up photo of your dog or cats face and any other part of its’ body you would like in the pastel painting. If possible, take the photo in natural outdoor light. If taking the photo indoors or in deep shade, use a flash. The best photos would be taken at your pets’ eye level. I prefer to work with a few photos in different poses, if possible.

Please be sure and tell me your pets name, age, special personality traits, or whatever else will help me capture his/her personality in the portrait.

Mary is happy to work with you on any breed. Just let us know.
Please see our Commission Section for more information.
