Translating the name from French says it all: petit means ‘small’, basset means ‘low to the ground’, griffon means ‘rough-coated’ and Vendeen is the area of France where the breed originated. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is known as the ‘happy breed’. A PBGV is eager to please, fearless and independent. It enjoys hunting and can work in dense woods, being an active strong dog that needs plenty of exercise.
