Saint Bernard

The St. Bernard was named for the Hospice of St. Bernard in the Swiss Alps, where the monks have bred these large dogs since the 1600s. The St. Bernard is truly a gentle giant, and famous for its rescue of travelers lost in the snow. A St. Bernard is especially loving and understanding with children, is easily trained and intelligent. Like other giant breeds, it is not long lived and requires lots of space.
